The Chinese
Why did the Chinese immigrate into America?
When examining the emigration of the Chinese, one will find that the biggest reason for the immigration to America was the Gold Rush. Many Chinese people came in search for gold. Most of these people were wealthy merchants. During the Gold Rush the Chinese popultaion shot up, but then the Chinese Exclusion Act was signed. This stopped the Chinese from immigrating to America for 10 years. This act was made because the Chinese started taking jobs of some Americans.
Where did the Chinese settle and What did they do?
The Chinese settled all over the U.S. in places called "China Towns". These were created for the Chinese to live, work, shop, and socialize in. The most popular China Town was in San Fransico because of the gold there. In America, the Chinese mined, cooked, became store keepers and built rail roads.
